I was up north last weekend for my sister's baby shower, and
only caught the last three sketches live.
This week has been crazy, and I didn't get a chance to watch the rest of
the episode til right now, so onward with...
The Good
Nada...this was a pretty terrible episode, and nothing rated
above a 5 to me.
The Meh
Cold Open:Piers Morgan
talk show(4)-This sketch epitomizes the quality of this episode. There were so many missed opportunities,
first with the Notre Dame guy, then with Jodi Foster, it was really
unfortunate.
Monologue(5)-The
jokes themselves could have been funny, but there was somethign really off
about Jennifer Lawrence's delivery. It
felt like she was nervous, or holding back, cause the jokes didn't have the
punch they needed to really hit.
Weekend Update:
Headlines(4)-Six of fourteen jokes made me laugh. It was really bad.
Top Dog Chef(4)-The
only reason this sketch was bumped from the uglies was Vanessa Bayer's cat at
the end. This was just a painful sketch
to watch.
Love Letters(4)-The
concept was...amusing, but I do not find the new guy funny at all, and his
execution kind of ruined the sketch for me.
The Ugly
We got a lot here, so let's jump right in.
Commercial:Verismo(3)-So
apparently, all Starbucks baristas are ghetto?
I don't know, this was totally strange.
Girlsfriends Talk
Show(2)-Some sketches work really well when the actors are on the verge of
cracking up. This was not one of them.
Hunger Games Press
Conference(3)-This was pretty terrible.
It seemed to be written by someone that saw the movie trailer, but no
more. 'Peeta is short' and 'Katniss is a
weird name' jokes really fall short, especially in comparison to the Sofia
Vegara sketch from last year.
The Hobbit(2)-The
Hobbit strung out to 19 movies. Cause
that hadn't been made at least 19 times already.
Rude Waitress(1)-Jennifer
Lawrence fails at being menacing, and the concept itself was pretty terrible,
all combining for a horrible sketch that was basically an anti-joke.
Weekend Update:
Segments(3)-There was only one segment, the second hand news guy, and this
only made me laugh becuase of the screwups.
Not strong at all.
B108(3)-So. Saying Shakopee and having Timberwolves
jerseys on the wall does not a Minnesota sketch make. There were no long 'a''s, there were no actual Minnesota references beyond the
token town name, and the characters suck.
Danielle(1)-A
European soft core porn trailer, maybe?
I don't know, this was pretty much the worst, and I am loath to find out
what it knocked out of the show.
The Rest
The Lumineers rocked it; I love their music anyway, so this definitely
wasn't a hard sell. They were easily the
best part of the show and really should have gotten three songs like Paul
McCartney did.
Jennifer Lawrence really loosened up by the end of the
episode, but her rough start and even rougher writing did no favors for
anyone. It's unfortunate, because she
seems like a down-to-earth young actress, and she really deserved better.
I'm fairly certain this will be the worst of the season, but
there have been some doseys.
The average score is 3.00.
I am almost speechless at that score, but it's really not
surprising. Hopefully tomorrow's episode
will be better.
